Authentically Furnished Unique Turn-Key Airbnb!
Tucked into a lush green hill in the very green mountains of Vermont is a Tolkienesque gem! “It’s not a nasty, dirty hole… nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole…it’s a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort!”
Anyone who has stepped through the round door for a stay has agreed that this is true! This finely furnished Baggs Inn cottage with the Double Dragon Pub has over 80, 5-star reviews on Airbnb.
Maybe it is the 6+/- acres of meadows, stonewalls, old maples and sweeping valley views that transports one far from the maddening crowds of cities or possibly it’s just the cozy cocoon created by being in the deep, rich, quiet hillside that creates the magic. Does it really matter why or how it happens or just that it does!
We spent over 6,000 hours on the design/build to make this dream come true. Completed in 2018 this (modern) cottage feels an age away. The park-like condition took 20 years to establish. Hundreds of trees have been removed and another 100 trees and bushes planted to create a Shire.
Eleven hundred sq. feet of a truly unique and energy-efficient building with walls a foot thick and a roof supported by 154 posts and beams is a safe, quiet, bunker for wild weather and low maintenance. It sleeps four with two full baths (shower & claw foot tub) indoors, plus an outdoor shower and clawfoot tub under the stars. Baggs Inn includes a full kitchen, dining, living, library, and sleeping nook… all create the look of old-world artistry. A full-size washer & dryer is tucked in the bedroom walk-in closet. The attached Pub has a full bar, music nook with instruments, a player piano and roll collection, darts, dance floor, the 2nd large screen TV, again hidden from sight, game table, and games. Radiant heat throughout the entire cottage along with the wood stoves in both The Pub and Baggs Inn are required only for ambiance or for a power outage. There are two A/C units and a fresh air system.
Those who traveled far and wide to spend their gold coin for warm days relaxing by the spring-fed pond or in the hammock, enjoying starry nights sipping ale and singing by the fire pit or soaking in the outdoor tub after The Quest for the Arkenstone or Bard the Bowman’s Archery Challenge deem it to be an unexpected adventure! This fully furnished turnkey rental or home with unique antiques, art, and collectibles was designed to make this cottage an authentic experience that is not soon forgotten!
Included with the hobbit house, the 6 +/- organic acres of flat land for planting gardens and/or raising animals, is shared access to the spring, which has run 24/7 for over 200 years and supplies the water for the spring-fed pond. A summer chicken coop and fenced yard provide guests with easy access to fresh eggs for their morning fare.
You may search ‘cross vast lands for this unique architecture as restrictive zoning laws often prevent creative design of dwellings. The home is on well water and a gravity septic system so no municipal water and sewer concerns.
There is no HOA but the deed will lay out the few restrictions & allowances. For instance; ‘No junk in view’ and ‘Approved fencing & outbuildings’, ‘Shared tractor and tools’…etc. Common expense is for driveway plowing only.
The Spring Cottage — $88,000
Only steps away, the Spring Cottage can be purchased along with the Hobbit House (Not Offered Separately)
A mini-barn is a large one-bedroom or amazing art studio or both. It is attached to a one-room (8′ ceiling) living area with an efficiency kitchen, wood stove, full bath with shower, and composting toilet (that could serve a 3 bedroom home).
This 3-season cottage with direct view of a real wishing well (spring head) is a bright, charming space that gives a wash of daylight and provides the balance to the hobbit house’s cozy atmosphere.
The attached screened-in porch is best at sunset and the double dutch doors of the living space open to view the meadows, pond, and apple blossoms in the spring. A wood storage rack for the Hobbit House and Spring Cottage is located here.
