Built to last forever, the foundation is a massive 30 inches thick. The upper walls are a full two feet thick. The walls are all hand-hewn stone brought over by boat over a period of four years in the 1780s. The house became known, far and wide, as ‘The Prepper’s House’.

The Prepper’s House retains many of the original features. It still has the original bubble windows with interior shutters. There are sturdy cast iron locks to secure the shutters. There are original wooden beams in the dining room, plus three interior fireplaces, and one false fireplace. Two fireplaces have modern airtight woodstoves installed.

There are numerous mature producing trees including Black and White Walnut trees, Oak, Elm, Chestnut, as well as false Acacia.
